Charles Hyde collection : architectural drawings, 1890-1956 1890-1920.

MS 2000-55 consists of the architectural drawings of the Charles Hyde collection, covering the years 1890-1956 (bulk of material from dating from 1890-1920). Dr. Charles Hyde, Professor of History at Wayne State University, donated this eclectic collection of architectural drawings. The collection documents bridges, a proposed tunnel between the United States and Canada at Port Huron, the Dodge Main plant in Detroit, and power plants in Sault Sainte Marie. Specifically, the collection contains documentation of a proposed bridge (1942) over a spur track at the Ford Bomber Plant three miles east of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and the bridge (1927) over the Raisin River in the city of Monroe, Michigan. The seven drawings of the Dodge Main plant date 1915 to 1956. The drawings (ca. 1910) of the Murphy Iron Works in Detroit, Michigan are renderings of a facade and roof of a Georgian style structure. The St. Clair Tunnel drawings (1890-1907) are good reproductions of original plans for a tunnel between Port Huron and Sarnia, Ontario. Lastly, the drawing of Sault Ste. Marie (1920) documents plans for electric power stations, and also shows the Soo Locks and some of the city.
